Canary-One™ reports on the presence of nerve agents or blister agents in air every 20 seconds. The entry price for this sensor system enables large-scale deployment for distributed sensor networks. Its low mass makes it a superior solution for UAV and UGV payloads.

Canary-Two™ will report the names of the chemical weapons present. For instance if both sarin (GB) and soman (GD) are released then Canary-Two™ will report both chemicals and their relative concentrations. A full analysis of air samples takes about two minutes.

Canary-Three™ combines the fast alarm feature of Canary-One™ with the complete analysis capabilities of Canary-Two™. Not only will it tell you what is in the air, it automatically adjusts the collection time to fit the situation. At high concentrations, collection times are short to provide answers quickly.

Canary-Two™. This sensor system is capable of reporting a complete high confidence analysis of chemical warfare agents in a matter of 2 minutes. Unlike other commercial systems, Canary-Two™ uses ambient air as the carrier gas so there is no need to carry or refill gas bottles. The system is handheld or can be emplaced in a sensor network for continuous protection. Every 2 minutes, this system will specifically identify sarin, soman, sulfur mustard, etc and their relative concentrations.

Defiant's modular manifold accepts the key system components (micro pre-concentrator, micro GC column and micro SAW array detector). The manifold provides fluidic and electrical connections for each component.

    What can chemical selectivity do for you? ? The system was introduced to a mixture of three chemicals. Two chemicals were target chemicals DMMP and Methyl Salicylate (MES). The third was an industrial solvent, methylene chloride, at a concentration a few orders of magnitude higher than the DMMP and MES. Canary-Two™ shows little or no response for very high concentrations of an interfering chemical like methylene chloride. However, the very small amounts of chemical surrogates for sarin gas (DMMP) and mustard gas (MES) produce a very large response. Both are detected in the same analysis but reach the detector at different times thanks to an integrated micro gas chromatography.
