Defiant Technologies News

ChemSimple Goes into a Complex World (October 2007): Defiant Technologies' second product, ChemSimple, is delivered to DTRA for evaluation. ChemSimple brings gas chromatography to the field in a portable handheld package. The DTRA unit combined a sample collection/injection stage, with a one-meter gas chromatograph (GC) column for sample separations. A SAW microbalance detects analytes as they emerge from the column to complete the analysis. Adding a GC column to the system provides the sorting required to tell exactly what compound is encountered.

Canary Leaves the Nest (September 2007): Defiant Technologies' first product, Canary One, is delivered to the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) for evaluation tests. Canary One offers a 20 second analysis cycle using a heated porous frit for sample collection and injection, and a coated SAW microbalance for analyte detection. Combining selective preconcentration with a targeted SAW coating allows for a rapid analysis while common interfering chemicals are ignored.

New Location (August 2007): After two years, Defiant Technologies has abandoned the basement home of its origin and moved to 3825 Academy Parkway South, NE Albuquerque. The new location currently provides 700 square feet of lab space along with four times that area for future expansion.

A Prototype is Born (April 2006): The gas analysis module at the heart of Defiant Technologies' products is tested for the first time outside of a national lab. This compact sensor system was designed and constructed in the basement of Defiant Technologies' Albuquerque home. Working in a basement always provides a convenient burial place for failures. In this instance, the funeral was cancelled.
